Abstract
A Study on the Characteristics of Korean Ballet in Juri’s Blue Dopo + ×

The purpose of this study is to explore the common Korean characteristics in the works of choreographers who were active in the same era as choreographer Juri, of “Blue Dopo” This paper is a literature study, and the results are as follows. First, from 1955 to 1970 the influence of the Korean War and the military regime, encouraged a search for Korean culture, promoting choregraphers to produce work related to Korea. In addition, since the National Dance Company was the only “national” dance organization, it is believed that choreographers internalized the cultural reforms of the government and projected Korean characteristics into their works. Second, the core theme of “Blue Dopo”which was created by Juri adapting the Spanish folk tale “Triangle Hat,” is based on orean folktales, poems, folk paintings, and legends. Therefore the costumes combine hanbok and ballet tights, the music is Korean and Western, and both Korean dance and Western movement is combined. It is meaningful in modern art history to re-examine Juri’s addition of Korean ethnic characteristics to Western themes as she was the iinfluential first female choreographer and founding member of the National Dance Company.

Abstract
A Study on the Activation Plan of the Saturday Permanent Performance of Jeonju Daesaseupcheong + ×

Jeonju Daesaseupcheong(Jeonju Traditional Culture Building), founded in 2021, introduces a permanent performance system and presents traditional art performances every Saturday. With the annual number of visitors to Jeonju Hanok Village currently reaching 10 million, if the Jeonju Daesaseupcheong's permanent performance for tourists is activated, it will have infinite potential as a traditional art content and will become an unrivaled performance. This study has examined the current status of permanent performances on Saturdays and sought ways to enhance them based on a SWOT analysis of the Jeonju Daesaseupcheong’s performance report and Steering Committee’s activities. The results of the study are as follows. First, a promotional marketing strategy needs to be designed, targeting tourists in Hanok Village as main audiences for traditional art performances. Second, pansori-based Changgeuk(Traditional Korean opera) can be developed into a permanent performance repertoire. Third, a development of participatory content creation is suggested to encourage local residents’participation. This study makes some important contributions to suggesting the operational directions for the permanent Saturday performances of the Jeonju Daesaseupcheong.

In this study, we collect and screen capture shots of 41 moving image clips out of 18 dance performace. We presented 12 expression methods that can distinguish the purpose and use cases of moving images from the perspective of stages, dancers, and audiences based on the contents commonly presented in six previous studies for work analysis. The 12 expression methods can distinguish the purpose and characteristics of the moving images for the dance performance. As a result, the most important reference point in the relationship between dance performances and Moving Images revealed in this study is the choreographer's intention. In addition, close collaboration between choreographers and video designers can not only improve the work's workability but also increase the understanding and immersion of the work from the audience's view. Therefore, this study is a records 20 years of choreographers and Moving image designers to create dance performances with high workmanship.

Abstract
Analysis of Jeong Jaeman’s Seungmu Yeombulgwajang through Greimas Semiotic ×

This study is to analyze the movements of Yeombulgwajang, a section in Seungmu, a Korean traditional dance, from a perspective of Greimas’ semiotics. For the analysis of the study, the movement principles of “contraction and expression” and “tying and untying,” which were derived from the philosophies of Yin-Yang and Reincarnation embedded in Seungmu, were discussed through the idea of Greimas’s semiotic square. The relationships between contraction and expression and between tying and untying are deemed to be confrontational; the relationships between expression and untying and between contraction and tying are regarded as hypothetical; the relationships between tying and expression and between contraction and untying are seemed to be contradictory. The meanings of the dance may be formed and interpreted diversely based on the various combinations of these elements. The study contributes to demonstrating a new way of interpreting inherent meanings in Seungmu.

Abstract
The Introduction and Development of Locking Dance in Korea ×

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data that can serve as a guideline for understanding and interpreting the current state of Korean street dance by examining the inflow and development of Locking dance in Korea.

As research methods, interviews with three Locking experts were conducted and each interviewee’s responses were thematically categorized for the analysis of the study. As a result, Locking dance was introduced to Korean people firstly through video materials such as movies, broadcasts, and dance videos from abroad, and later by inviting well-known dancers from different countries to Korean dance competitions as judges. The introduction to Locking dance in Korean society motivated some Korean dancers to invite, various Locking dancers from across the world to Korea for dance workshops, which gave those who learned Locking dance only by watching videos the opportunity to experience the “original” Locking style. Since then, Locking dance in Korea has been more developed through the steady exchanges between Korea dancers and dancers from other countries. Currently, the number of Locking classes, workshops, and events in Korea has drastically increased.

Abstract
Somatic Perspectives on Bak Geum-seul’s Chumdongjak Movement Principles ×

The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between Bak Geum-seul's "Chumdongjak" movement principles and Somatics. It is also to examine the movement principles of Bak Geum-seul’s "Chumdongjak" in relation to the theory of the Five-Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Through the embodied experience in Bak Geum-seul's basic dance moves, the results of the study are as follows: First, one of Bak Geum-seul's movement principles is to enable a dancer to recognize and be aware of their body, which is similar to a principle of somatics that focuses on body awareness. Second, Bak Geum-seul's ‘upper body’ movements can be represented as Wood and Fire. Bak Geum-seul’s ‘middle body’ movements can be described as Earth while her ‘lower body’ movements can be symbolized as Metal and Water according to the theory of the Five Elements. The study suggests what happens inside of our bodies can be signaled through emotions. I hope that this study, which emphasizes the importance of expressing internal emotions through dance, may promote a healthy and harmonious lifestyle.

Abstract
A Case Study on the Development of a Dance Movement Therapy Program Using Korean Dance ×

Through a case analysis of small business CEOs who have accumulated social stress as a result of the pandemic of COVID-19 and participated in a dance movement therapy program, this study analyzes and reconstructs Korean dance movements in order to develop a dance movement therapy program and presents its effects. This program incorporates meditation and breathing exercises based on Oriental philosophy. In particular, the study examined the development process and results of the program in order to expand its scope and apply it to stress, menopausal disorders, depression, and anxiety that are common among the general population.

Firstly, we found that gender neutralizing the feminine dance movements would make male participants more comfortable participating in the program. In addition, the dance movement treatment program using Korean dance movements was found to be an effective alternative complementary therapy for relaxing muscles and solving physical and psychological issues. Moreover, the Korean dance-based movement therapy program, which employs movements and sensibilities that are best suited to Koreans, can further improve the health and well-being of Koreans.

Abstract
Formation and Structure of the Music of the Twelve-forms Janggo(Hourglass-drum)-dance + ×

This paper examines the formation and structure of dance music and the relationship between dance and music in order to better understand Kim Chi-hong's style of the twelve-forms Janggo dance. Literature review and oral history research are employed as research methods, and the musical characteristics of sound sources and videos are analyzed using a characteristic decomposition method. The results of the study can be summarized in three points. First, this article revealed that the music of the dance was a Seodo folk song written at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries. There is a greater possibility of the twelve-forms Janggo dance and its music interacting during the period. Second, the rhythm of the twelve-forms Janggo dance changes from Jungmori (♩ =65), to Gutgeori (♩ =40), and then to Jajinmori (♩ =70-95) rhythm. Third, music was transmitted along with dance. The process of transferring the twelve-forms Janggo dance is closely related to lyrics, the melody, and the rhythm of “Ginnanbongga”, “Cheongchunga”, and “Hangang-soo taryeong”. This research is important because it indicates that the musical structure and formation of this dance contributed to the transmission and creation of the dance itself.
