This study analyzes the cultural transformation process of government gisaengs from 1908 to 1945 through a cultural psychological perspective. To this end, various data such as newspapers and magazines at the time were used to examine the cultural change and adaptation patterns of government gisaengs from the socio-cultural and psychological aspects. John W. Berry's theory of cultural transformation provided the theoretical framework, upon which the changes of government gisaengs were categorized into four categories: assimilation, separation, integration, and marginalization. As a result of the study, in assimilation, separation, and integration, models, actors, singers, calligraphy artists, independence activists, parasitic schools, and gwonbeon trained professional artists to form a positive social identity. On the other hand, in the marginalization, a negative phenomenon of experiencing social exclusion and alienation and leading an unstable life appeared. This study will contribute to expanding the understanding of cultural transformation of traditional artists by revealing how the identity of government gisaengs was reconstructed in a cultural psychological manner amid modern changes.

Through a case analysis of small business CEOs who have accumulated social stress as a result of the pandemic of COVID-19 and participated in a dance movement therapy program, this study analyzes and reconstructs Korean dance movements in order to develop a dance movement therapy program and presents its effects. This program incorporates meditation and breathing exercises based on Oriental philosophy. In particular, the study examined the development process and results of the program in order to expand its scope and apply it to stress, menopausal disorders, depression, and anxiety that are common among the general population.
Firstly, we found that gender neutralizing the feminine dance movements would make male participants more comfortable participating in the program. In addition, the dance movement treatment program using Korean dance movements was found to be an effective alternative complementary therapy for relaxing muscles and solving physical and psychological issues. Moreover, the Korean dance-based movement therapy program, which employs movements and sensibilities that are best suited to Koreans, can further improve the health and well-being of Koreans.

Vol.37
pp.195-219
The purpose of this study was to examine the concept of the dance literacy and its components along with the development process of and educational method for the dance literacy using qualitative methods. Six professional dance educators were selected using typical case selection (Miles & Huberman, 1994) and theoretical sampling (Strauss & Corbin, 1998). In-depth interviews were conducted, and the collected data were analyzed by inductive category analysis. The findings of this study are as the following. First, the concept of dance literacy (DL) is the accumulation of the knowledge and competences of understanding dancing and doing it, and the components of DL are dance knowledge and recognition skill (DL for practice), humanity knowledge and inquiry skill (DL for theory), and practical knowledge and conductive skill (DL for integration). Second, the development process of DL is categorized into implicit learning stage, selective perception stage, and spontaneous learning stage. Third, the development methods of DL are dance practice, research on dance theory, and learning through the community of practice. Based on the results, it will be helpful to promote the dance educators’ professionalism, make qualitative changes on dance education, and foster professional dance specialist.

Traditional art genres have been differentiated and developed as new types in a 21st century that is already accustomed to diversity. In particular, modern art was grafted to digital media to escape the negative limitations of the traditional class to enjoy something through an expansion into popular culture with de genre. As a result, the art world was able to determine how to promote this expansion, leading to a fusion and reinvention through “communication and integration” between genres. Recently, the attempt to develop a research-intensive genre has been progressing by grafting arts genres, differentiated under a paradigm called “The same starting point,” through exchanges and convergence. Particular attention has been given to grafting the characteristics of modern poetry to dance creation and performance in a fusion of literature and dance. This fusion can be divided into two types based on the intertextuality of the two genres. One is poetic dance, with the poetry-dance concept expressing poetic nature through dance, while the other is the dance scenario poem, with the dance-poem concept focusing on performing arts. Though the two concepts are not independent art genres, from the viewpoint of fusion and re-creation, they can be evaluated in terms of how they individualize dance’s deep poetic soul and poetry’s dynamic symbolism. The purpose of this study is to establish creative methods for poetic dance drama, with the essay focusing on creative process methods for three dance poems using a typed person with repose of souls through the symbolic images of Kokdugaksi Norum, which is a traditional drama, in convergence with the plot of ssitgimguk (a shaman ritual for cleaning a dead person’s soul), which is a folk ritual of sacrifice, and modern poetry. In Chapter 1, for the conceptual definition of poetic dance drama, the prior research on the intertextuality between poetry and dance will ber reviewed, while Chapter 2 will premise the creation of poetic dance drama, analyzing the story and character structure of “Lemuralia” in order to apply in earnest the relationship between a ritual of sacrifice and original art to creative activities. In Chapter 3, the essay will explore creative methods through the analysis of actual poetic dance drama. It aims to expand the arts in modern society by encompassing an emotional re-convergence with different arts genres from traditional society. In order to complete the poetic dance drama, Kokdugaksi Norum, conducted in this study, this researcher summarizes the creative methods of poetic dance drama mentioned above according to three points of view. The first is a mix between arts genres that borrow from Korean culture. The second coordinates poetic creation and the language arts within a process for broadening our understanding of the symbolic and dynamic movements of dance, body arts in terms of recognizing performing arts. The third fuses poetry with dance in combination with dynamic images to recognize the poetic soul and to identify the possibilities inherent in communication, individuality, and the convergence of arts genres in terms of creating community awareness that can be interpreted as an object of symbolic meaning.

A case study on the application possibility by non art-majored teachers for art integrated education
예술 비전공 교사의 예술교육 활용 가능성에 대한 연구 : 장애아동 대상 예술통합적 방법을 적용한 일반교과 교육사례를 중심으로
DOI:10.26861/sddh.2016.41.83Asian Dance Journal
Vol.41
pp.83-110
This study investigates whether teachers in the field of public elementary education, who did not major in the arts, can actively utilize artistic activities in teaching-learning methods. The subjects of this study were 9 teachers who had not majored in any of the arts. In 2014, from the first class on May 7 to the last class on December 10, for a total of 15 classes, these teachers received a demonstration class, experienced the arts, produced artistic works, and developed programs. The researcher provided time for the subjects to experience artistic education and subsequently develop an educational proposal that could be actively utilized in the educational field. Through this process, the researcher was able to derive the following conclusions. First, it was possible for teachers who had not majored in the arts to develop art-integrated educational programs and because this development was led by teachers, they had no problem applying the programs in the field. However, because there was a premise that such development was made in collaboration with art education experts, discussion regarding collaboration between teachers in active service and experts in art education is needed. Second, as art education is a teaching method for obtaining long-term effects, in order for teachers to actively utilize it in the educational field, priority should be given to teachers to having sufficient artistic experiences and the appropriate environments in which to develop educational proposals. To this end, multi-sided support should be sought, for example, opportunities for long-term training or the development of educational courses and tools.

The Influence of Somatic Movement Program to the Health Elements of Seniors
소매틱움직임 프로그램이 노인의 건강요소에 미치는 영향
DOI:10.26861/sddh.2016.41.129Asian Dance Journal
Vol.41
pp.129-158
This article reports on changes in health-related parameters, including muscular strength, cardiac-pulmonary endurance, flexibility, equilibrant and coordination, elderly citizens who completed a seven month movement educational program based on somatic disciplines for body-mind integration. The study included 5 participants (1 male, 4 females; age range 70-86) and was conducted over seven months (November 2013 to June 2014) at a senior welfare center in Seoul, Korea. Pre-program data collection consisted of a questionnaire on somatotype, body composition analysis, and examination of physical strength. The somatic movement program included meditation, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Pilates, the Feldenkrais Method, etc., and each participant attended class for two hours twice a week. The program comprised to sections of 20 and 14 classes respectively. After each section, body composition and physical strength were analyzed (1st exam: March 27, 2014 ; 2nd exam: June 3, 2014). The results of this study were as follows: First, the participants lost weight and body fat noticeably through somatic disciplines. Second, it seems that there is a significant interrelationship between somatotype and health elements. Indeed, the participants improved on some specific aspects of health elements more than others which depends on the participants’ somatotype. For example, leg and arm muscle functions were improved more for participants with mesomorph than those with ectomorph. The observed outcomes were attributed to the participants’ attitude of immersing in classes, mindfulness, intimate relations between teacher/peers, and awareness of their own soma in daily lives.

발달장애아동의 운동수행력 향상을 위한 감각통합무용예술교육 프로그램 ‘춤추는 예술가’ 개발 및 효과 검증
DOI:10.26861/sddh.2019.55.29Asian Dance Journal
Vol.55
pp.29-53
The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of a sensory integration dance program on motor performance in children with developmental disabilities. Participants were 9 people with developmental disabilities (mean age; 11±2.0 years) by using convenient sampling. The study was designed as a single cohort pre and post-test comparative study. The dance program was performed 12 sessions (12 weeks, with a frequency of 1 times/week for 150 minutes per session). Motor performance was measured by Bruininks-Oseretasky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2). Non-parametric tests, using the Wilcoxon singled-rank test for pairwise comparisons, were performed to evaluate pre- and post-intervention changes. As a result, manual coordination(p=.007), body coordination(p=.007), and total motor performance(p=.008) were significantly increased. Therefore, the sensory integrated dance art education program ‘Dancing artist’ was found to be a dance art education method that can improve the motor performance of children with developmental disabilities. These efforts are expected not only to develop a body that is a subject of sensory experience for children with developmental disabilities, but also to identify creative expression activities, artistic sensibility, achievement, free communication opportunities, and the possibility of growth as a disabled dance artist.
