Abstract
The Influence of Narcissism on Self-Management and Performance Confidence of University Students Majoring in Dance ×

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of narcissism on self-management and performance confidence among university students majoring in dance. A survey was conducted with dance majors enrolled in four-year universities in Seoul, and a total of 363 valid questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS Version 23.0. Data analysis included frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability testing, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, narcissism had a statistically significant effect on self-management. Second, narcissism significantly influenced performance confidence. Third, self-management had a significant positive effect on performance confidence. These results indicate that narcissism functions as a psychological resource that promotes self-management and enhances performance confidence among dance majors. The findings suggest that, within pre-professional dance training contexts, certain dimensions of narcissism may contribute positively to psychological stability and performance-related competence.

Abstract
Examination of Functional and Artistic Elements of Shamanic Ritual Inherent in Dosalpuri dance+ ×

This study aims to identify and analyze the structural elements of the Dosalpuri dance by exploring its intersections with the spiritual and artistic aspects of traditional shamanistic rituals, thereby enhancing the understanding of the foundational framework and value of traditional dance. To this end, the research investigated the value and characteristics of the dance based on literature and video materials, examining the embedded spiritual and artistic elements of shamanistic rituals through themes, costumes and props, rhythm, and dance movements. The theme of dosalpuri encompasses the psychological and religious significance of invoking and treating spirits well to obtain blessings, encapsulating the archetypal form of shamanistic rites through play and resolution. The white costume, resonating with grief and secrecy, symbolizes the prevention of misfortune, and the 3-meter-long white scarf is interpreted as the pathway from the divine time to human time. The rhythm retains the traditional patterns used in the Gyeonggi Dodang-gut [Gyeonggi Province shamanic ritual]. The dance movements include daruchigi, mokjeotnoreum, and yongsawi, adhering to the formats of inviting, entertaining, and sending off spirits.

Abstract
미국 현대무용의 선구자 이사도라 던컨과 루스 세인트데니스의 움직임에 나타난 세기말의 징후들 ×

This study aims to articulate how the social background and environment of liberalism and exoticism in the fin de siècle affected the expression of movement, analyzing the work of Isadora Duncan and Ruth St. Denis. For this, First of all, the works the two choreographers’ developed during their peak years, between 1900 and 1920, has been reviewed through the lens of previous research. Second, a fresh look was taken at each choreographer’s solo work that has significant movement characteristics, and two experts working abroad recommended three major works each. Finally, the movement of six works was analyzed by video. The recommended works are as follows: For Duncan, Water Study, The Blue Danube Waltz and Dance of Furies and, for Denis, Incense, A Javanese Court Dancer and White Jade were chosen. Six categories including theme, significant body part, line of movement, locomotion (level change/path), music and mood were used to analyze movement. Following the analysis, significant movements of Duncan preferred rounded arm lines, utilizing integrated movements. This created a challenging and intense mood along a circular path. She expressed the inner self that appears in liberalism, influenced by individualism and her own thoughts that followed the order of nature-Greek-women’s liberation. On the other hand, Denis preferred angular-lines with a variety of hand gestures, using isolated movement, and walked calmy by grounding her feet from heel to toe while straightening the upper body. She made a solemn and serious mood along a linear path. As Denis was facing a new era, she became interested in exoticism and grafted her art onto oriental thoughts. She expressed the gods through herself rather than showing her individual tendencies. In conclusion, these movements’ characteristics of the two choreographers grafted liberalism and exoticism together. Duncan elevated liberalism into her choreographies while expressing nature-including ocean waves-and the comfortable costumes of ancient Greece. But Denis pursued a new style of choreography with more symbolic movements, utilizing various images of oriental and Asian gods. These are the major differences between Duncan and Denis. Their attempts were the predecessor to American modern dance.

Abstract
An Exploration on Literary Figuration and Style of Sleeve Dance (袖舞) Described in Literature Collections of Joseon Dynasty ×

This study extracted the literary figuration of the Sleeve Dance (袖舞) from the literature collections of Joseon Dynasty, and explored its meaning and style. As a result, the study extracted not only ‘Jangsu (長袖)’ and ‘Chuisu (翠袖)’ with connotative meanings, but also ‘Bun (飜: Bunyeon 飜然: Yeombun 艶飜)’ and ‘Pyeonpyeon (翩翩)’ the specific descriptions for fluttering sleeves, and ‘Pasa (婆娑)’ the description for non-conventional dance. After exploring the meanings of their origins and exemplary standards, the study emphasized that ‘Jangsu’ should be considered not only the shape of a long sleeve but also a gorgeous sleeve dance of a beautiful dancer, and ‘Chuisu’ should be considered not only the color of a green sleeve but also an excellent sleeve dance of a pitiable dancer. The study also confirmed that ‘Bun’ was a general description for a fluttering sleeve, ‘Bunyeon’ was a description for a sleeve fluttering high enough to touch the sky and changing very quickly, ‘Yeombun’ was a complex description for the combination of a beautiful dancer and beautiful sleeve, ‘Pyeonpyeon’ was a description for a very thin and light silk sleeve fluttering like a butterfly, and ‘Pasa’ was a description for a sleeve movement which was more rough and non-conventional than an ordinary sleeve dance which generally moved light and swift. Those descriptions were confirmed to be based on the standards from the Classic of Poetry (詩經) and Tang Poetry (唐詩), and these phenomenons were confirmed to be the part of Classicism (擬古主義). This study has significance to bring ‘Sumu’ in the center of discussion for the first time in Korea

Abstract
A Study on of the Development of Cheoyong Gigong by Combining Gigong [氣功] and Traditional Cheoyong Dance. ×

In the second volume of the book Samguk Yusa (The History of Three Kingdoms), Cheoyong appears as a son of the Dragon King of the sea in an era of King Heongang of Silla. He got married to a beautiful wife from Silla. One day, as he came home late, he discovered that his wife was sleeping with a god of epidemic. Looking at the scene, Cheoyong chased away the god by singing and dancing. In this folk tale, the meaning of each characters is interpreted as follows: the god of epidemic means disease, his wife means a patient, and Cheoyong himself means a dance therapist. I approached Cheoyong Dance as an act that he defeated the god. In this paper, I would like to develop a new therapeutic Cheoyong Dance for promoting health by combining traditional Cheoyong Dance and Gigong Exercise. This will be the way to approach the public easily as another role of healthy Cheoyong Dance. The combining Cheoyong Dance with Gigong exercise will be the way of promoting healthy life and wellbeing.

Abstract
A Study of The Historical Significance of CIS Goryein’s Succession of Traditional Dance Culture ×

This paper examines the meaning of the traditional dance culture that Korean people, particularly focusing on the CIS(Commonwealth of Independent States) have preserved in other countries through the tradition of Korean traditional culture. Furthermore, using online press release and publications, the authors Xaim to study its meaning within the Korean dance history. The research on Korean diaspora culture and their traditional dance activities is being done rarely by the Korean Dance Department. It could be said that research about the Goryeo people living in the CIS is practically nonexistent. Currently, the tradition of the former Soviet art group has been revived and continues its tradition. The succession of traditional dance culture plays an important role in instilling a sense of bond and shared identity with Korean people the same. In CIS, several Goryeo delegates cultivate young dancers, but they are inheriting traditional dances through cultural exchanges through culture with Korea. Korean dancers should be interested in them because CIS dancers Goreyo dancers are thirsty for continuous exchange with Korea, such as performances and workshops. The CIS Goryeo people underwent a catastrophic change of history in the past 150-year history of immigration to Russia, the Soviet Union, and the CIS. They have followed the Soviet policy for survival but lived with dual characteristics that does not forget the tradition of their origin. They are forming a distinctive culture. Their activities indicate the possibility of expanding the area of Korean culture and arts. The exchange with them will go beyond sharing the tradition of Korean people, and will form a traditional network that can promote Korean culture even in regions where there is no exchange with Korea through the Goryeo people spreading across Eurasia in transnational countries. I think that this will contribute to expansion of Korean dance. In the future, Korean dancers will have to embrace Korean diaspora dance culture, and at the same time, I hope that Korean dance culture will spread to the world.

Abstract
The Birth of Modern Korean Dance Discourse ×

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of discourse act that was unfolded in the process of modern Korean dance securing its significance as performing arts. In Korea, the first-half of the twentieth century witnessed the formation of new culture based on a clash between modern Western civilization that was accepted and the autogenous modern consciousness. The appearance of newspapers, in particular, provided ample opportunities for the reading public to participate in the society and gave birth to the modern consciousness of sharing one's ideas with others. This happened in the field of dance from various perspectives including reviews in the criticism format after the appreciation of dance performances, critiques, dance theories, and new ideas of the traditional dance. There was no establishment of proper dance criticism in Korea during the modern period, however there were meaningful acts to create dance discourses from diverse perspectives and enhance the aesthetic modernity of the public.

The Symbolism of “Gyeonpa,” a Dance Move of Ilmu in Jongmyojeryeak

Abstract
The Symbolism of “Gyeonpa,” a Dance Move of Ilmu in Jongmyojeryeak ×

This study aims to analyze dance moves of Munmu and Mumu, two kinds of Ilmu of Jongmyojerye (the royal ancestral rites music) in order to identify significance and symbolism of the dance moves. The findings show that "Gyeonpa" was a dance move that was always included in 11 pieces of Botaepyeong(music to praise the cultural achievements of Jeseon's kings) and Jeongdaeeop(Music to extols the military attainments of Jeseon's kings) each. In Munmu, dancers would collect the energy, which has been circulated and spread before their faces with the knees bending and stretching and two hands open sideways each of the pieces by performing dance moves of spreading, gathering, turning, and repeating in most cases. After this Gyeonpa, the dancers expresses symbolically the wish for Botaepyeong, which achieves unity between the Heaven and Earth and hopes for a reign of peace for many years, in attitudes of respect and humility. In Mumu, they would maintain the Gyeonpa move of erecting a wooden sword(spear) straight and raising it high during long beats through the arm movement with no knee bending and stretching or perform Hyeokjeong with power and discipline 12 times, expressing Uideok(virtue) symbolically. The dance move of Gyeonpa is representative of the unique nature of Jongmyoilmu. It is important that the moves of spreading Mundeok in the combination of Yak and Jeok, circulation of yin and yang, and harmony of Ye and Ak would connect to flexible and soft dance moves of Haphyung in Munmu. In Mumu, it is important to maximize the solemn mood by erecting the wooden sword(spear) straight and stopping it with moves of embodying the achievements of distinguished military service with discipline.
