This study analyzes William Forside’s Synchronous Objects for One Flat Thing, Reproduced from a geometric perspective. This dance is a digital work presented through an online platform, which combines various fields to produce 20 objects. The work uses geometric forms to express dancers’ movements and spatial interactions in various ways. In our study, the interaction and fusion of art and geometry are explored by analyzing the dancers’ movements by means of geometric shapes such as points, lines, and planes. It analyzes how various patterns and structures are formed in space when dancers pass each other or make synchronized movements. Therefore, this study contributes to geometrically analyzing and understanding the dancers’ movements and their uses of stage space by combining dance and geometry.

International Performing Arts Exchange in the Wake of Covid-19
포스트 코로나시대 공연예술 국제교류 경험에 관한 연구 : 무용예술가를 중심으로 +
DOI:https://doi.org/10.26861/sddh.2021.63.31Asian Dance Journal
Vol.63
pp.31-51
This study explores the primary issues in international performing arts exchange in the post-COVID-19 era. In our in-depth interviews with dance artists, each with over eight years of experience in international exchange before and after the pandemic, we witnessed the challenges and opportunities posed by the current pandemic situation. We used phenomenological methods to analyze the interview data. Our analysis revealed four problems: (1) the gap between live performance and recorded online performance; (2) the lack of equitable collaboration between artists and arts administrators; (3) the lack of diverse approaches and forms of support; and (4) the increase in barriers to international performing arts exchange. Our findings suggest countermeasures, such as: (1) balanced support both for live performance and online performance; (2) more flexible communication between artists and administrators; (3) adoption of more diverse and creative modes of international exchange; and (4) provision of training and education to promote artists’ access to and mobility in international artistic exchange.

DOI:10.26861/sddh.2018.50.35Asian Dance Journal
Vol.50
pp.35-58
The purpose of this study is to explore the creative scene of youth dance artists by revealing the meaning of the audience to them based on their experience of the creative support project of youth dance artists. In order to do so, in-depth interviews were conducted with three youth dance artists who were beneficiaries of the program and the transcriptions of the interviews were analyzed qualitatively by constant comparison method. From the results, I was able to derive the significance of the following three categories. First, starting from the conception phase, the youth dance artists try to instill in their performance a value that is up to par with the high expectations of the audience. Second, they think that the critiques by critics and other professionals in the field are limited and propose the need to give more weight to the reactions of the lay audience as an evaluation factor. Moreover, they suggest the need to diversify the evaluation committee and review committee members in order to encourage the inflow of new dance artists. Third, the youth dance artists point out the difficulty of their activities reaching the critics as well as the media and point to the audience as a remedy to the issue as well as a driving force to construct new field of dance. First, as an element of support in the program, I propose to strengthen the support in the domain of criticism. There is also a need to improve the program’s current process of evaluation and review to emulate a structure in which currently active artists, professionals of various fields, and the lay audience can participate. Finally, I propose to strengthen the role of the country as a facilitator that encourages the support of its citizens and emphasizes the role of the market.

DOI:10.26861/sddh.2019.55.29Asian Dance Journal
Vol.55
pp.29-53
The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of a sensory integration dance program on motor performance in children with developmental disabilities. Participants were 9 people with developmental disabilities (mean age; 11±2.0 years) by using convenient sampling. The study was designed as a single cohort pre and post-test comparative study. The dance program was performed 12 sessions (12 weeks, with a frequency of 1 times/week for 150 minutes per session). Motor performance was measured by Bruininks-Oseretasky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2). Non-parametric tests, using the Wilcoxon singled-rank test for pairwise comparisons, were performed to evaluate pre- and post-intervention changes. As a result, manual coordination(p=.007), body coordination(p=.007), and total motor performance(p=.008) were significantly increased. Therefore, the sensory integrated dance art education program ‘Dancing artist’ was found to be a dance art education method that can improve the motor performance of children with developmental disabilities. These efforts are expected not only to develop a body that is a subject of sensory experience for children with developmental disabilities, but also to identify creative expression activities, artistic sensibility, achievement, free communication opportunities, and the possibility of growth as a disabled dance artist.

DOI:10.26861/sddh.2020.56.183Asian Dance Journal
Vol.56
pp.183-205
The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of disability dance education by analyzing disability dance education research trends. Among the papers related to disability dance education registered in the Korea Education Research Information Service, 46 papers published, which were published from 2010 to October 2019 were examined, through content analysis and keywords analysis. As a result, the research scope has been expanded to the emotional, physical, and social adaptation targets for people with intellectual disabilities, and a number of studies on the use of dance for the purpose of physical rehabilitation while related keywords have been found. Therefore, it is necessary to convert the social members' awareness of the disabled arts through the disability dance education, and it is urgent to develop a dance arts education program considering the characteristics and degree of disabilities and to train professionals in the arts of disabilities. This study suggests a professional educational institution that educates the disabled to become professional dance artists.
