The purpose of this study is to explore the experience of applying the APIECE(Actor’s Body and Psychology, Psychological Gesture, Personal Feeling and Soul, Image Integration and Imagination, Ensemble and Improvise, Character Characterization, Creative Personality, Expression of Dance) program to improve the dance expressiveness of college students majoring in contemporary dance. In order to find out the qualitative change in dance expressiveness, 5 people with a high level of participation and interest in the program were selected, and in-depth interviews, experience diaries, and observation diaries were categorized using an in inductive analysis method.
As a result, first, college students majoring in modern dance visually expressed their imagination through the imagination of the observed object. Second, the essence of body expression was explored through continuous expression through concentration, confidence in self-movement, and visualization of space. Third, in a person whose center of gravity between me and others was shifted, the form was composed and transformed through the body. Fourth, in the stage of self-awareness through archetypal gestures and psychological gestures, it was explored that dance expressiveness reflects the body's mental attitude.

The Research Trend of Qualitative Researches on Dance/Movement Therapy +

This study examines sixteen qualitative studies on dance/movement therapy(DMT), selected from multiple peer-reviewed Korean academic journals to identify current trends in the field. The study found that only one qualitative research-based study was conducted in 2008, and no qualitative research-based studies were conducted from 2009-2015. However, since 2016, more qualitative research methods, such as case study, phenomenological research, consensual qualitative research, and general qualitative research, have been incorporated into DMT-related articles. The data collected for these studies have been mainly based on interviews, which are then verified by the interviewees and their peers for reliability. Recently, more researchers have undergone IRB review procedures following ethical norms before conducting their studies. Participants of the research have included adults, adolescents, and children who were invited to about 10 to 15 sessions with 50-180 minutes for each session. Overall, through the analysis of the sixteen selected qualitative studies, this paper has categorized the ways in which DMT has impacted participants into seven areas: emotional, personal, physical, social, educational, cognitive, and spiritual.

Analysis of Philosophical Paradigms in Dance Educational Research

Dance education research, like all research, can be either quantitative or qualitative. The purpose of this study is to discuss ontological and epistemological paradigms from a philosophical perspective, and analyze dance educational research in order to enhance the understanding of these conceptual paradigms, thereby contributing to proper development of dance education research. Epistemological paradigms seem to reasonably argue that our understanding of reality depends on our conceptual worlds, in truth reality is subjective rather than objective. However, certain pre-eminent features in physical objects and human behavior exist independently, limiting our explanations and understandings of reality. Therefore, considering the historicity of individuals and social groups, it is necessary to understand dance education through qualitative research. However, preeminent features in physical objects and human behavior constrain our understandings of educational realities. Such constraints make it possible for the researcher to derive generalized concepts of reality through quantitative research. The results of quantitative research put forward some uniqueness in dance education that must be analyzed through qualitative research. In this respect, it is false and misleading to dichotomize research paradigms as ontological and epistemological. Considering such positive interactions between quantitative and qualitative research, it is obvious that these research methodologies are complementary.
