Abstract
A Systematic Literature Review on Dance Major International Students in Korea ×


This study conducted a systematic literature review(SLR) of empirical research on international students majoring in dance in Korea published between 2020 and 2025, examining research topic trends and methodological characteristics. Using PRISMA 2020 guidelines and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool(MMAT, 2018), the analysis revealed a strong predominance of non-randomized quantitative studies (81.6%) and a limited presence of qualitative research (2.6%). Findings indicated that the career development, university adaptation, and psychological experiences of international dance students were shaped through interactions within sociocultural contexts and the artistic practice of dance, rather than being confined to individual factors. However, existing studies largely adopted an individual-variable-centered approach, with limited integration of cultural and educational contexts. This review provided foundational insights for advancing the internationalization of dance education and improving research quality on international students.

Exploring Educational Perceptions of Metaverse Lifelogging-Based Physical Expression Activities+, ++ ×


This study examines pre-service teachers’ educational perceptions of digital physical expression activities while utilizing lifelogging tools such as Mocopi and Padlet with 58 pre-service teachers from two departments at C National University of Education.. Using Q methodology, the study proceeded through the following stages: the development of Q statements related to the research topic, the selection of participants as the P sample, and factor analysis to identify types of educational perceptions. As a result First, the Active Acceptance and Selective Utilization groups highlighted the positive aspects of lifelogging, including memory support, personalized learning experiences, and creative self-expression. Second, the Avoidant and Indifferent groups pointed out negative factors, such as concerns about privacy invasion, psychological burden, and digital fatigue. Third, the findings emphasized the need to provide user-tailored solutions for effective adoption. Fourth, lifelogging-based physical activities with Mocopi and Padlet were shown to foster social presence and strengthen mutual connectedness among learners.

Abstract
Possibility of Korean Dance Training Method Using Terminology ×


This study investigates the necessity of training methods in performing traditional Korean dances and suggests a possibility of using them. To this end, Bae Junghye's Korean dance training method was used to describe and analyze traditional dance movements. Bae Junghye’s method can be utilized for the following reasons. First, it helps dancers practice and strengthen movements during their training. Second, it can be appropriately applied depending on the purpose of movement expression. Third, it can be used for basic exercises before performing a dance. Fourth, systematic training of movements is possible through Bae Junghye’s Korean dance method.

A Study on the Aesthetic Thoughts of Zhao Dexian, a Pioneer of Korean Chinese Dance in China + ×


This study aims to analyze the life and aesthetic philosophy of Zhao Dexian, a pioneer and innovator Korean-Chinese dance theory. Zhao Dexian conducted research on the expressive techniques of dancers based on physiology and psychology, concurrently developing educational methods that combine theory and practice. This not only contributed to the development of Korean-Chinese traditional dance's stage expression but also played a significant role in an educational context. Building upon existing research, this study collects and organizes materials such as Zhao Dexian's writings, research papers, and critiques. In addition, it conducts in-depth interviews with Zhao Dexian's children, disciples, and relevant individuals to supplement any gaps in existing literature and to delve into the details of Zhao Dexian's growth and artistic activities while analyzing his aesthetic philosophy.



The aesthetic philosophy inherent in Zhao Dexian's dance art centers around the unification of mind and body. It explores how to harmonize emotional understanding and expression from both physiological and perspectives. The fundamental practice of this expression emphasizes dance training based on de analysis of humans through the "Si Xiang Fang" constitutional characteristics. In summary, this study highlights Zhao Dexian's contributions to the field of Korean-Chinese dance. Significantly, the study on his unique aesthetic philosophy suggests a further investgation of Korean-Chinese dance education and a better understanding of artistic exchange between Korea and China.

Abstract
Iconological Method for Studying Dance History of Korea : Analysis of Goguryeo Tomb Mural Paintings through Erwin Panofsky’s Iconology ×

In studying dance history of Korea, diverse patterns of dance are discovered in murals, historical remains, and royal rites. Then, how should dances contained in visual materials be understood? This study aims to examine the method of analyzing dance depicted in paintings to research the history of dance. To that end, Panofsky’s iconological method, used in researching the history of fine art, was used to examine dances depicted in murals. Research was conducted in the following procedure. First, the concept and principle of iconology, focused on the historical background of iconography and iconology, were reviewed, and recent iconological arguments were examined. Second, how to apply the iconological method to dance was discussed. Third, through Panofsky’s iconological gradual analysis method, the iconography of the right-hand mural in Goguryeo Jangcheon No. 1 Tomb’s Anterior Chamber was described and analyzed to define its meaning. The findings of this study are outlined as follows. According to previous iconological description, the iconography of dance depicted in the right-hand mural in Jangcheon No. 1 Tomb’s Anterior Chamber features a Goguryeo person performing both-arm dance and lotus dance to the accompaniment of a string instrument. According to the iconological analysis, the dancer performs Buddhist-faith funeral dance. Such ritual dance contains the cult of wishing the dead person’s soul will well reach the nether world, as well as the wish that the dead person will lead a happy life in the nether world. According to the iconological interpretation, Goguryeo sleeve dance changed and developed into today’s Hansam, Jangsam and other diverse sleeve dances. Goguryeo dance contains the essential life meaning, and although the themes and concepts of dance may vary according to times and works, all dances are the expression of life and the heart of wishing for a good life; thus, the life, the essence of Goguryeo, was analyzed as the universal essence and inherent meaning of Korean dance. This study is significant in that it prepared a framework to research dances depicted in paintings, and proved that iconology can contribute to diverse analyses in researching the history of dance. Iconological research on dances illustrated in visual materials is expected to continue.

Abstract
A Somatic Study of Royal Court Martial Arts Based on Sensory Awareness Training ×

The purpose of this research is to explore if the Feldenkrais Method(ATM), a leading approach of the somatics field, is positively applicable to Royal Court Martial Arts. Three research questions were prepared to achieve the purpose of this study. As a research method, experiential description based on phenomenology was employed. The researchers of this study applied the ATM to a practical field of Royal Court Martial Arts, Pyung Soo Beop in particular for 100 days. Making the training logs, the researcher described them in a lingually representative way. The result of analysis and interpretation of the somatic data were as follows. First, what appeared on Sensory Awareness Training during the process of learning the ATM of the Feldenkrais Method, were largely categorized into three features. (1) ‘intentional exploration’-the process of recognizing intention through movement, (2) ‘relaxation and communication’- the process of delivering the intention of the movement and (3) ‘integration and arrangement’- a status that looks for and recovers a definite intention of movement. Secondly, the answers of the second research questions, were characterized by the following five features: exploration, concentration, coordination, integration, and energy. (1) ‘exploration’ is the first step to discover an accurate intention at the starting point of a motion. (2) ‘concentration’ is the step to recognize and understand the definite intention of a motion. (3) coordination is the step to recognize given information through the process of concentration, and then, to continue to look for the most effective way through a ‘coordination’ of organic movements. (4) ‘integration’ is the step to relax, transit, be aligned, and be recovered through the most efficient movement. (5) ‘ki energy’ is the last one, which not sequential, overall, so it is distinguished form the order of the other steps. Thirdly, the findings to the third research questions were as followings. (1) breathing was improved and changed to be easy, comfortable, stable, and deep. (2) coordination and balance were harmoniously improved. (3) through organic harmony of movements, the body’s alignment changed into a balancing and stable state. In conclusion, this study showed that Royal Court Martial Arts applied by ATM could improve performer’s sensory awareness ability in general, integrating function and structure by intentional movement, through which training of the Martial Arts could be improve in quality.

Analysis of the Trend of Dance Therapy Research : Focus on Domestic Doctoral Dissertation ×

The purpose of this study is to examine the trend of dance therapy research while providing scholastic information for the future research. To the study, the researcher analyzed 43 research papers on dance therapy which are mainly domestic doctorate dissertation. The information was collected from internet research while retrieving in the Korean Studies Information. ‘Dance healing’ was main word for the internet research. The researcher aslo use keywords with trend of study on dance therapy and theme/object/method of study. The result of study is as follows: Dance therapy is being studied in the academic field at several domestic universities(23 universities). It is mainly studied in the departments of athletic area(47.8%) and health/medical area(27.9%). With respect to type of study, quantitative study(79.1%) is much more than qualitative study(13.9%) and integrated study(7.0%). With respect to tool of study, research by questionnaire(56.8%) is most prevalent. With respect to sample of study, general people(55.8%) is slightly higher than patients(44.2%). Collective sample(87.5%) and mental disease(47.4%) are most prevalent in the sample of patients. With respect to independent variables as the method of dance healing, DMT(41.9%), Korean traditional dance(18.6%) and other dance program(16.3%) occupy 76.8% of the entirety. Health (43.5%) is highest in the dependent variables as the object of dance healing, followed by disease(32.6%), physical strength(8.7%), physical composition(7.6%) and physiological function (7.6%). Related to the health, mental health (37.5%) is higher than physical health (6.5%) and in the disease, mental disease(28.3%) is higher than physical disease(4.3%). In the lower factors of mental disease, the 3 factors of depression(38.6%), stress(26.9%) and anxiety (23.1%) occupy 88.6% of the entirety. The lower factors of mental health appear in the order of self-respect(29.4%), quality of life(14.7%) and emotional intelligence(8.8%) and they diversly appear in the 14 lower factors. Although this study was done for domestic doctorate of trend of study on dance therapy, the study should be extended to include master's degree or journals and study on the meta-regression analysis of dance therapy effect is necessary. The author intends to suggest that the development of dance therapy program and the study to develop questionnaire as tool of study is necessary as independent variable appearing in the result of this study.

Recently, circumstances for dance creation are changed, so choreographers choreograph in various methods. For example, employee choreographer, guest choreographer, joint choreographer, assistant choreographer, repertory choreographer, musical choreographer, collaboration choreographer. The purpose of this study is to examine, based on Korean Copyright Law and precedents of Korean court, who owns the copyright in these various choreographic participation methods and the effect of copyright ownership. As a result, this study concludes as follow: First, in case of employee choreographer, when choreography was done as part of his job under employer's planning, a work was played in the name of employer and as long as they have no other set in a contract or employees' rules, employer has a copyright. If not, employee has a copyright. Second, in case of guest choreographer, he or she has a copyright. If client and choreographer have agreed to transfer copyright to client by the contract, only author's property rights are transferred to client and author's moral rights are left to choreographer. Third, in case of joint choreographer, when several choreographers created a work jointly, and each contribution part is indivisibly united, so it is not available separately, everyone have copyright. But when each contribution part is available separately, each choreographer has copyright to it. Fourth, in case of assistant choreographer, only when he or she created really to some degree, he or she has copyright with choreographer. Fifth, in case of repertory choreographer, when he or she changes original work enough to be accepted as new work by social norm and his or her work is actually similar original work, he or she has secondary copyright only to the new elements of the derivative work. Sixth, in case of musical, when choreographer creates dance part, he or she has copyright alone to it. Seventh, in case of collaboration, artists of different genres can't generally have copyright to choreography, however, when a fusional work was created jointly, everyone has joint copyright.

Effective Approaches to a General Dance Education for Activating Dance as Art : A Focus on Action Research ×

This study focuses on how to teach general dance education in university environments where a dance department does not exist, making it difficult for students to approach dance as an art. Within such a context, this research aimed to teach a general dance class in such a way as to improve students’ perceptions of dance as art. The research questions were as follows: First, what is the perception of general dance education for students who live in areas where people lack opportunities to experience dance as art? Second, what should be taught in a general dance education class in order to activate perceptions of dance as art? Third, what points could be improved in a general dance class in order to revitalize dance as art? This study followed an action research format, focusing on a real situation while seeking to understand the role of education. The participants were five male students taking a general dance class at a four-year system university located in Chungcheong province. In this context, it is difficult to offer various dances as art forms to students because the class runs semester by semester, making it difficult to meet all student requests in such a brief time. In addition, the university lacks any other dance classes, so students had no choice and could not compare with other classes. Therefore, the interviews completely focused on the researcher’s class, lacking comparisons with other classes. The study results indicate the following effective approaches to a general dance class. First, the class needs to include “dancing for physical exercise.” Second, the class needs to be “naturally experienced.” Third, the class needs to be “exciting and communicable.” These results emphasize that dance is not a “serious” class but offers comfortable and interesting learning to students. In addition, educators need to consider the students’ responses and develop teaching content and methods depending on the situation. Therefore, dance educators teaching general dance classes must consider various environments and students’ interests. Many action research studies on general dance education have been published, and people can continue to share their experiences in the future. Furthermore, we can expect increasing interest in dance as art.

A case study on the application possibility by non art-majored teachers for art integrated education ×

This study investigates whether teachers in the field of public elementary education, who did not major in the arts, can actively utilize artistic activities in teaching-learning methods. The subjects of this study were 9 teachers who had not majored in any of the arts. In 2014, from the first class on May 7 to the last class on December 10, for a total of 15 classes, these teachers received a demonstration class, experienced the arts, produced artistic works, and developed programs. The researcher provided time for the subjects to experience artistic education and subsequently develop an educational proposal that could be actively utilized in the educational field. Through this process, the researcher was able to derive the following conclusions. First, it was possible for teachers who had not majored in the arts to develop art-integrated educational programs and because this development was led by teachers, they had no problem applying the programs in the field. However, because there was a premise that such development was made in collaboration with art education experts, discussion regarding collaboration between teachers in active service and experts in art education is needed. Second, as art education is a teaching method for obtaining long-term effects, in order for teachers to actively utilize it in the educational field, priority should be given to teachers to having sufficient artistic experiences and the appropriate environments in which to develop educational proposals. To this end, multi-sided support should be sought, for example, opportunities for long-term training or the development of educational courses and tools.
