This study aims to address the issues of dance and national borders focusing on the impact of political and ideological border movements on art and culture. First, I examine the concepts of deterritorialization and reterritorialization and discuss their implications on art and culture. Next, I review the case of German Reunification, to draw parallels with its experience with division and reunification to Korean dance history. Here, I explore the historiography of East German art that faded due to the predominance of the West after reunification. I suggest that it is important to ask questions about the foundation on which I stand in order not to otherize myself and others. A balanced perspective shall be sought to embrace the complexity of personal history that an official narrative may miss. I finally propose to have a broad view that goes beyond not only the borders of division but also the borders of unification.

The purpose of this research is to examine the historical development of the Korean-Chinese (ethnic Koreans in China) dance in China, and to examine the developmental aspects of the Korean-Chinese dance in Yanbian after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This research first defines the concept of the Korean-Chinese (ethnic Koreans in China) and Korean-Chinese dance. The Yanbian Korean-Chinese dance’s developmental aspects are divided in three stages: the Discovery and Creation of Korean-Chinese dance, the Development of Korean-Chinese dance, and the prevalence of Korean-Chinese dance. The characteristics that appear in the Yanbian Korean-Chinese dance’s development process is as follows.
 First, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Korean-Chinese dance was closely related to the dance development of the civilian local community.
 Second, in order to transmit and spread the Korean-Chinese dance in Yanbian, an established education and training system for Korean-Chinese dancers was required.
 Third, the dancing culture that was publically spread and transmitted, had moved on to performance stages by performers and was once again spread to earn its popularity.

This thesis examines the current status of the dance research of North Korea in three areas: research on dance history, research on dance theory, and the transmission and research of the cultural dance heritage. We investigate comprehensively by looking into the history of North Korean dance by identifying the artistic purpose of North Korea and the ways dance history books organize its history, and the research trend. In particular, it should be understood correctly on condition that the ideology contained in the dance, the social-cultural context, and the dance as a comprehensive art must be studied in paralleled with various theoretical systems, aesthetic characteristics, principles, and methods from a multifaceted perspective.

The history and culture of dance that could not be explained with old materials alone have been identified scientifically, newly established, and systematized in North Korea, and based on this, North Korean dance scholarship focused on the study of theory and method on the issues regarding transmission of the excellent traditions and dance heritage of the nation. This focus become an important guideline to the development of dance art in North Korea.

In addition, more systematic theoretical studies have been conducted in various ways, including Korean dance history, basic dance theory, and dance notation. These studies are significant in laying the foundation for the systemic and scientific study of dance theory. That would support the basics of dance, dance creation, and theoretical investigation.

This paper presents an experimental discussion that examines previous literature and controversial discourses on dance history of Korea in order to suggest new ways of writing dance history. The dance history texts of the premodern time of dance history are mainly written by An Hwak, Kim Jaecheol, and Seong Gyeongrin after the Japanese rule. Most of these texts are restricted to introduce court dances in the literature due to the limited number of surviving materials. I suggest that dance history of premodern Korea would be discussed with more variety and depth if social and cultural perspectives are adopted. There are various discussions developed about the descriptions of modern dance history, however there is room for improvement in regards to the poor perceptions of the independent starting point of modern times and the concept of modernity. If the descriptions of dance history in Korea achieve expandability by embracing different genres and various literary methodologies as well as syntactic descriptions, the scope of awareness will broaden further for dance studies.

This paper aims to compare the forms of basic and creative dances in Tokyo Korean School (hereafter Korean School) and Joseon School by focusing on the national dance education conducted by them, consider what a role the national dance has placed in internal and external events and suggest some tasks that they should perform in the future.

From the consideration , following findings can be summarized:

First, in terms of basic dance, Joseon dance is taught by dance instructors trained in a consistent system with systematic curriculum in Joseon School, while Korean dance education is conducted in an autonomous form at the discretion of the instructors in Korean school. Second, in terms of creative dance, although Korean School put an emphasis on creative activities reflecting the current generation's senses, by considering the flow of times, Joseon School is biased toward the nationalist tendency and has no modernistic perspective. Third, the national dance education in both schools has commonly served as an important medium for promoting the relation with Japan, the country of residence, through external activities.

Based on the findings, the tasks of the national dance education can be suggested, on which the new generation should focus. First, it is important for both Korean and Joseon School to co-host the cultural events in which they can watch and learn each other's dance and create the environment for them. Second, a joint research on the traditional dance of South and North Korea should be conducted, based on regular exchange between dance instructors working in both schools.

This study aims to record Bae Myeong-gyun's introductory course of basic dance in chronological order in which the researcher studied the lower body, foot, upper body, and tone breathing method. Bae Myeong-gyun did not promote the dance himself on the stage. It can be seen that the method of stepping on the lower limb, the upper limb, and the tone breathing method are logically clear. This can be referred to as the principle of wood, the principle of plants, that is, the dance teaching method huses with the principle of nature.

This teaching method will provide a way that students and the general public who are initiating to learn dance approach to a dance principle and will become the model of all dance.

The purpose of this study explores the relationship between contemporary dance and feminism, and examines the influence of feminism on the aesthetic and practice of dance. This study was conducted through literature review and case study. I discussed the relationship between feminism and dance through the feminist’s movement and theory developed by Donna Haraway, Elizabeth Grosz, and Judith Butler.

The case analysis of this study, I choose two contemporary choreographers, Mette Ingvartsen and Jeremy Wade. Ingvartsen’s <69 Position> deals with the performances related to nudity and focuses on the socio-cultural environment in which the search for the relationship between politics and sexuality is mainly carried out over time. Ingvartsen’s feminist approach consists of exploring the relationship between the sexed body and society, capital, and politics. Wade propose the role of art as a sustainable practice through curation covering the political performance of queer, women, and people with disabilities in the project called “Future Clinic for Critical Care(FCCC).” Wade’s queering strategy means discovering social problems with minorities and driving political mobilization on them.

In this paper, I approach the knowledge of choreography in a way differing from the knowledge built on the patriarchal history. This research suggests that feminism is expected to exist as a source of undiscovered identities and opens up new possibilities for research and creation.

This study sought to identify the effects of Sogo dance learning on brain function in elderly women. To this end, the subjects of the study consisted of 15 experimental groups participating in the practice and 15 non-participating control groups, with the practice period of 60 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks. Each group measured brain functional analysis with Electroencephalogram(EEG) before and after the experiment, and two-way ANOVA was conducted to determine the difference between group (small dance, control group) and period (pre-post) using SPSS 25.0 (IBM, USA). All statistical significance levels were p<.The following conclusions were obtained as a result of setting it to 05. First, the brain function index, which varied between the groups, showed significant changes in five brain function indices: basic rate coefficient (left brain, right brain), attention index (left brain, right brain), active index (left brain, right brain). Second, the brain function index, which differed over time showed significant differences in total of five brain function indices: self-regulation index, basic rhythm index (left brain), attention index (right brain), emotional index, and brain index. These findings could scientifically prove the unique characteristics and intrinsic value of Korean dance through the utilization value of Sogo Dance, and it is hoped that brain science-based dance research will take place in many ways

The French Nouvelle Vague was a new wave in the 1950s and 1960s that led to new changes in the French film industry, which had been struggling with a slump. Young film directors who rebelled against established film conventions sought fresh ideas, various expressions, and technological innovations. This new artistic wave, Nouvelle Vague, is also significantly correlated with Nouvelle Danse. Nouvelle Danse is a new "Jeune Danse" that appeared in Western Europe in the 1980s, with France at the center, starting to diverge from traditional dance art, not only in choreographic innovation but also in overall production of audio-visual devices, costumes, music and sounds. This Nouvelle Danse is an early form of contemporary dance that has led to the establishment of contemporary creative dance identity beyond Western Europe today.

In this study, it is possible to grasp the relationship between Nouvelle Vague and Nouvelle Danse by classifying the correlated factors among the concepts and propensities of the two into four broad categories. First, as a part that formed the consensus of the times and conceptual, the concept of a choreographer as an artist and disobedience to the existing methodology appeared. Second, the correlation of directing techniques can be confirmed in the introduction of visual art, montage or collage technique, and improvisation. Third, the area that was most directly influenced by Nouvelle Vague's film was probably dance film. Fourth, it is possible to confirm the correlation between Nouvelle Vague and Nouvelle Danse in their inducing or favoring critical attitudes of appreciation.

The purpose of this study can be divided into two. The first is to clarify the detailed schedule of the concert tour of the USSR, which was the last schedule of the Choi Seung-hee’s National Dance Studio, dispatched to the Eastern Europe tour in September 1956. This clarification includes an identification of the purpose, signification of this concert tour and the dance works. The second is to analyze the phenomenon of Choi Seung-hee’s glocality in her dance works based on the trends of her creation in the 1950s and the Soviet audiences’ reception of her works.

The Choi Seung-hee’s National Dance Studio held a concert tour of the Soviet Union for 44 days from November 30, 1956 to January 12, 1957. In this tour, the North Korean government had a political purpose to advocate North Korea's position among socialist countries and to strengthen the solidarity among them.

After Choi Seung-hee’s return to North Korea, in the form of her works she used the stagecraft of Soviet ballet for her choreographies of North Korean dance. And In the content and subject of her works, she pioneered the North Korean dance drama “North Korean Ballet”, which dealt with socialist patriotism and proletarian internationalism following socialist realism. In her other dance works, she portrayed the North Koreans’ wise, optimistic, and diligent lives and showed the model of North Korean socialists. Although foreign audiences’ reception was different, her artistry was recognized in Eastern Europe, including the USSR, and caused a great repercussion.

This study recognizes the role and importance of basic dance in Korean dance education, and aims to identify the research trends on basic dance choreography for about 50 years and examine the current status to be used as basic data.

In order to examine basic dance research trends, it was analyzed by year, publishing agency, and topic-specific criteria, and a total of 66 dissertations published from 1974 to 2020 were selected after keyword search using the RISS.

First, the annual standard was divided into five units for 10 years. The first phase of the study was 6.1%, with a high proportion of dissertations. The second term shows a quantitative increase of 12.1%. The third term decreased quantitatively from the second. The fourth and fifth periods saw rapid growth in research results, and a quantitative increase of 75.7% is confirmed. The subject of research has expanded to philosophy and aesthetics.

Second, the analysis by publishing organization showed that the dissertation was published at 13 universities and the academic journal paper was published at 16 academic societies.

Third, as a result of the analysis on a topic-specific basis, the most discussed topics are Dance/Movement Analysis, and the least discussed topics are psychology (treatment) and sociology/anthropology.

The last 20 years of the 50 years of research have shown a radical development in basic dance research, showing remarkable academic achievements such as proliferation in terms of various research topics, multi-disciplinary analysis and depth on specific topics, and efforts to build the structure and principles of basic dance.

The purpose of this study is to classify the types of site-specific dance performance based on the characteristics of the site. To analyze the types, I examine articles, interviews, reviews, and internet sources about site-specific dance performance. In conclusion, the general site type is not just the dismantling of the boundary between everyday life and the arts but has the characteristic of a place that provides an opportunity to remind us of our ordinary life through the connection of the subject of work from the characteristics of the everyday venue. The site of specific meanings type is a museum with its own cultural and historical meaning, or the theme of the work is connected from the characteristics of a place where free access by the general public is not possible, and through this, an opportunity to create partnerships with local communities and institutions. The episodic site type is that the subject of the work is connected from the discarded and useless place, and through this, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the historical meaning of the past and concerns about the issues currently occurring at the performance venue. This type has the characteristics of a place that presents the possibility of regenerating the place again.
